About this spot
Breitenbrunn sits on the western shore of Lake Neusiedl, opposite the school crowds of Podersdorf, and the beach is run by a kite club — the Förderverein Kitesurfen Neusiedler See — that was founded in 2019 specifically when kiting here was about to be banned. The deal with the estate that owns the Seebad is simple: the marked kite stretch belongs to club members, so riding here needs an active membership, bought as an annual ticket or a day pass, and the club checks it.
Because this is the west shore, the wind that works is the opposite of Podersdorf's. The club calls a southerly the best wind on the whole lake here: it arrives side-onshore, and out in front of the beach the reed islands shelter long stretches of flat water for every level plus lined-up waves for a twin-tip or a directional. A north-westerly is side-offshore — gusty, but with perfect flat water — and a northerly is rideable but offshore and gusty here too. The bottom is soft mud, which is kind to bodies and to foils, and the club notes that the light-wind conditions that are common here have made Breitenbrunn a foil and wing spot as much as a kite spot.
The trade-off is space and organisation. Launch and landing are confined to the marked area between the lighthouse and the first line of trees, the entry and exit lane inside the 200 m shore zone is tight, landing kiters have priority over launching ones, equipment only lives on the designated kite meadow with lines coiled, and the club advises against riding alone. Safe upwind riding is expected rather than optional — with an offshore-leaning wind and a narrow corridor, the ability to get back to the bank is the entry requirement. Facilities are modest compared to Podersdorf: a surf school and SUP rental by the lighthouse, a wind station and a live webcam at the Seebad, and a long gear carry on busy days.

Access & parking
About 45 minutes south of Vienna on the A3/A4 side of the lake; the Seebad and lighthouse are at the southern end of Breitenbrunn, Seebad 1.
Parking: Seebad and village parking, then a carry to the kite meadow — space is tight at weekends and the club asks that nothing is parked in the launch zone.
Amenities
- FKN club base at the Seebad: membership, rules briefing and on-site starters and landers when the team is around
- Surf school (Fritz & kids) and SUP rental beside the lighthouse
- Live wind station and webcam at the Seebad showing wind speed, direction and water temperature
- Beach bar and restaurants at the Seebad; village shops a short walk away
Needs local verification: Compiled from lake regulations, municipal pages, kite clubs and schools in October 2026; launch points, fees, club membership rules and on-water zones still need checking on site. Water temperature here is a seasonal lake estimate — the marine model has no inland-lake data.
Local hazards
- Riding requires an active FKN club membership (annual or day pass) — you cannot simply rig up here
- The prevailing north-westerly is side-offshore and gusty on this shore; a northerly is offshore too
- Tight launch and landing area between the lighthouse and the trees, with a narrow entry/exit lane inside the 200 m shore zone
- Reed beds and reed islands close in the water: shallow, and easy to lose a board or a foil in
- Very soft mud bottom — unfamiliar footing and a hard fall if you are used to sand
- Crowded bank at weekends and holidays; the club advises against kiting alone
