About this spot
Visit Turks and Caicos calls Long Bay on Providenciales the best place in the islands to learn kiteboarding: clean, clear, shallow water and fairly predictable onshore wind, with several IKO-certified schools and a dedicated water-sports resort on the beach.
The beach faces south-east into an east to east-south-east trade, onshore to cross-on, usually 12–18 knots and firming up from late morning. Schools ride year-round except September and October, when there is little wind; January to March is a bit stronger, and June to August is a local favourite.
Tide matters: at low water it is knee- to waist-deep and very flat, and schools plan beginner lessons around low tide. Lessons are jet-ski assisted.
