About this spot

The local kite guide lists Mele Beach as a wide sandy beach suitable for all levels of kiters, about 8 km from Port Vila.

Hideaway Island sits just off the beach and is skirted by reef. Star pickets halfway to the island and metal posts carrying its water supply are in the water — stay clear of them.

Vanuatu's kite season follows the trade winds, generally May to October; many reef-fringed spots are only kiteable for a few hours either side of high tide.
