About this spot

Mui Ne is the spot that put Vietnam on the kitesurfing map. From roughly November to April the north-east monsoon funnels down the coast and blows side-onshore along this long sandy bay, often 15-25 knots day after day — one of the most reliable wind statistics in Asia. The water is warm all year, the bottom is sandy, and the beach is lined with kite schools, rental centres and beachfront resorts, so it works as a first-lesson destination and as a winter training ground alike.

Conditions inside the bay run from small chop on moderate days to a proper wind-driven swell of a metre or more when the monsoon is strong — fun for jumps, but the shorebreak and the busy water (schools, beginners, swimmers near the resorts) demand awareness. The wind is side-onshore from the right (NE/E), which is what makes the spot safe: anything goes wrong and you drift back to the beach. A southerly or south-westerly turns the wind offshore along this coast and must not be ridden.

Watch the fishing fleet: Mui Ne is a working fishing town and boats, nets and the round basket boats (thung chai) move through the riding area, especially early morning. In recent years winter storms have eaten sections of the beach, so the launch width varies season by season — at high tide some stretches leave little dry sand. Schools and rental are everywhere along Nguyen Dinh Chieu street, and rescue cover is informal, usually arranged through your school.

Access & parking

Nguyen Dinh Chieu beach road in Mui Ne, about 4-5 hours by road from Ho Chi Minh City; launches through the resorts and schools along the beach.

Parking: Parking at the resorts, restaurants and kite centres along the beach road.

Amenities

  • Many kite schools & rental centres along the beach
  • Resorts, restaurants and cafés on the beach road
  • Accommodation for every budget

Needs local verification: Compiled in October 2026 from the schools' own pages and established spot guides (KiteInsider, Kiterr, local school sites). Exact launch pins, seasonal beach width (the NE monsoon eats the Mui Ne shoreline some years), fishing-boat and net positions, jellyfish season and any local launch fees all still need confirming on site — coordinates are approximate, not verified launch points.

Local hazards

  • Southerly / south-westerly winds are offshore — do not ride
  • Fishing boats, nets and round basket boats in the riding area, especially early morning
  • Shorebreak and wind swell on strong monsoon days
  • Beach width varies by season — some stretches have little dry sand at high tide
  • Busy water in season: school zones, beginners and swimmers near the resorts
  • Jellyfish occur seasonally — ask the schools
