About this spot
Paracas, about four hours south of Lima, has a wide sheltered bay where a strong southerly wind builds most afternoons, especially from about August to March. The water is flat to choppy and shallow near the beach.
Schools teach here and it is a common place to learn. The cold Humboldt current keeps the water cool — a wetsuit is needed all year. The bay borders the Paracas National Reserve, so follow reserve rules and avoid wildlife areas.
