About this spot

Pigeon Point sits at Tobago's south-west tip, a few minutes from the airport. A kite travel guide describes the Bon Accord Lagoon behind the Buccoo Reef as flat, shallow water with almost no current, and names Radical Sports Tobago as the long-standing school on the beach, joined in season by the Tobago Kitesurf Centre. Season is November to April.

Radical Sports teaches to IKO guidelines and runs its courses from boats to get students upwind into wide, empty areas. That matters: a community spot guide says north and north-north-east are the stable directions, east is very gusty, and the wind is offshore at the normally crowded beach — difficult for beginners on their own, fine with boat support.

Pigeon Point is a heritage park with an entrance fee, and the school states that unauthorised teaching is prohibited in front of the beach. Watch for coral, boats and jet skis; reef waves break about a kilometre out.
