About this spot
Rameswaram and the Dhanushkodi spit, between India and Sri Lanka, have water on two sides: the Palk Bay to the north and the Gulf of Mannar to the south. The south-west monsoon blows from about April to September and the north-east monsoon from about October to February, so riders switch shores with the season.
Shallow, flat lagoons and local schools make it India's main place to learn kitesurfing. The area is remote and close to a maritime border, so follow local and security rules, and confirm with a school which shore is working.

Needs local verification: Compiled in October 2026 from independent spot guides and the general descriptions of the Rameswaram kite schools. Which shore is ridden in which monsoon, launch areas and any coastal or security rules near Dhanushkodi change, so everything here needs confirming locally; coordinates are approximate, not a verified launch point. No verified live webcam was found, so the camera links open Windy's webcam search instead of a local feed.
Local hazards
- Wind direction decides which shore is safe — ask a school
