About this spot
Rum Point, on Grand Cayman's north coast inside the North Sound, is a flat-water lagoon protected by an outer reef, with a lot of riding space between here and Starfish Point.
The shore is the catch. The spot guide warns that many of the local beaches are private, so finding somewhere to launch and land the kite is the main challenge, and the kiteforum database records the standing rule: no kiting at Rum Point near swimmers — a group can ride out as far as the sandbar, but a safety boat is recommended there.
A watersports club on the North Sound runs kite lessons from its own base with direct water access and a sand-free launch pad, with a safety boat present throughout: a two-hour discovery for first-timers, a complete course of three two-hour lessons, and one-hour private coaching. Its base is at Safehaven on the sound, so ask exactly where on the water lessons are held.
The kiteforum database says the wind here is usually side-offshore, with the best direction from the north-east — so treat this as a spot to ride with the school or with a clear recovery plan. Peak season is November to April, occasionally into mid-May, with trades at 15–25 knots.

Needs local verification: Sources: https://kiteguide.com/carribean/cayman-islands/rum-point (flat-water lagoon protected by an outer reef, masses of space to Starfish Point, but launching and landing is the challenge because many local beaches are private; Nov–Apr, occasionally mid-May, trades 15–25 kt), https://se.kiteforum.com/kitesurf/spot/Grand_Cayman___Ivory_Kai_Beach (flat water, winds usually side-offshore, best direction NE, main direction ENE, tide independent, hazards ships/jet skis/kayaks and trees on a small beach; the rule that you do not kite at Rum Point near swimmers and that a safety boat is best at the sandbar), https://www.dragonbaysailing.ky/kitesurf-lessons-cayman (North Sound kite lessons: 2-hour discovery, 3 × 2-hour course, private coaching, safety boat throughout, sand-free launch pad from the Safehaven base). The beginner label is withheld: a school teaches on the sound, but the same sources say the wind is often side-offshore and public launch space is limited, so this page does not present it as a first spot. The operator's base is at Safehaven, not at Rum Point itself — confirm where lessons run. Coordinates are approximate. Water table: seatemperature.org Cayman averages.
