About this spot

Snow Bay is the home water of Bahamas Kitesurfing, an IKO-listed school affiliated with the Guanahani Beach Club. The school's own pages describe a reef- and cay-protected lagoon with flat, sandy-bottomed water that is free of stones, corals and sea urchins, and a shore break that rarely exceeds about 20 cm.

The trade-wind season runs from late October to the end of April with side-shore north-easterlies of 15–25 knots; the school notes January–March as the windiest stretch, typically 15–20 knots. May to August bring a lighter south-easterly of 10–15 knots.

Lessons are taught directly by the school in these waist-deep locations, but it states plainly that it does not run lessons in conditions it considers unsuitable for learning, and it picks the teaching location by conditions and ability. Shark sightings are reported in the surrounding reef and wall dive areas from November to May — not described as a Snow Bay lagoon hazard, but a reason to stay inside the locally briefed area.
