About this spot
The Split is the kite launch at the north end of Caye Caulker, a small patch of sand on the east side next to the Lazy Lizard bar. In front is a clear lagoon about 1–3 ft deep for roughly 300 m, flat to choppy, with the barrier reef somewhere between 500 m and 1 km out.
The trade wind blows north-east to south-east, side-onshore, from November to July — typically 15–18 knots with stronger 20-plus-knot mornings in winter and spring.
Kite Belize offers lessons and a three-day course, and for anyone uneasy in the busy channel it runs assisted sessions to quieter spots around the island — North Point, Secret Beach and Miami Beach — away from docks and boats.
