About this spot

All About Accra calls Ada Foah the best flat water in Ghana — a wide, sheltered estuary full of sandbars and islands, two hours east of Accra, with surf where the estuary meets the sea.

An estuary guide advises mid-to-high tide (sandbanks show at low water), steadier morning and late-afternoon wind, and hiring a local instructor for currents. No certified kite school is documented, so there is no beginner label.

Amenities

  • Riverside lodges and resorts
  • Kayak rental and boat trips

Needs local verification: Compiled in October 2026 from All About Accra's water-sports guide, the Accra Street Journal beach guide, Windfinder's 2011 Ghana kite trip report and an estuary travel guide. Ghana has only these two documented kite spots and no certified kite school, so neither carries a beginner label. Wind sector is my reading of the south-west sea breeze; pins are approximate. Water temperature is a seasonal Gulf of Guinea estimate.

Local hazards

  • Tidal currents in the estuary
  • Sandbanks exposed at low tide
  • Surf and current at the river mouth
