About this spot

The Bay of Alcúdia in northern Mallorca is a long, gently shelving sandy bay famous for its reliable summer thermal wind, the Embat: on sunny days a steady onshore sea breeze builds from late morning and typically reaches 12–18 knots in the afternoon — ideal for learning and relaxed freeride sessions in warm, clear water.

The bay faces roughly north-east: the Embat blows onshore from the north-east to east, which is the safe direction. Offshore winds from the south-west (over the land) are gusty and dangerous. Outside the summer thermal season the bay needs a proper northerly or easterly system to work. The water is shallow for a long way out with a sandy bottom and some posidonia seagrass patches. In summer the beach is packed with tourists and kite zones are strictly regulated — many sections are swimmers only, so use the designated kite areas.

There are kite schools at the designated zones (e.g. towards Can Picafort / the eastern end), parking along the beach resorts, and full tourist infrastructure. Warm water from June to October.
