About this spot
Beauduc, deep in the Camargue natural park south of Arles, is a legendary wild kite beach: a huge, wide sandy bay with shallow water, no buildings, no crowds and a raw natural setting of dunes, salt flats and flamingos. The bay is so wide and open that it works in almost any wind direction — Mistral, Tramontane, Marin (SE sea breeze) and even easterlies all find a usable angle.
The beach faces roughly south to south-west: the Mistral (NW) blows side-onshore, the Marin (SE) blows onshore, and westerlies are side-shore — all workable. The water is shallow far out with a sandy bottom, making it forgiving for all levels. The catch is access: the last kilometres are a rough dirt track through the natural park (drive slowly, respect the rules), there are no services at the beach, and the area is protected — wild camping and fires are forbidden.
There are no kite schools at the beach itself — the nearest are in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer; bring everything you need, including water. Parking is informal along the track behind the dunes. Warm water in summer. A magic spot for self-sufficient riders who respect the protected environment.
