About this spot

Berenice is a private beach club at the top of the South Beach strip, a few minutes from central Aqaba. Because it sits further up the gulf side of the city, the northerly arrives here first and often strongest, with a longer fetch for chop to build.

The club runs a jetty, sun loungers and a dive centre, and the beach is one of the few organised waterfronts on the strip. Kiters who ride here launch from the club beach with permission and head out past the reef edge into the open gulf.

The fetch means this is the choppiest of the Aqaba spots on a strong day — fun for jumps, less friendly for anyone still learning to stay upwind. As everywhere on this coast, the reef is close and the water deep.
