About this spot
Cuyo sits in the middle of the Sulu Sea, roughly halfway between Palawan and Panay, and kitesurfers know it as the quiet alternative to Boracay: the same Amihan monsoon, far fewer people. The main riding happens off Capusan Beach and the sandbar near the pier, where the north-east wind comes in side-onshore over flat to lightly choppy water with a sandy bottom.
The island has a small but established kite scene — a couple of schools and rental operations have worked here for years, and the wind statistics are genuinely good: 15-25 knots through the December-to-March core, with the season stretching from November to April. The water is warm, the bottom is sandy and the vibe is a provincial Filipino town rather than a resort strip.
The catch is access and infrastructure. Cuyo is reached by a long ferry from Iloilo or Puerto Princesa, or by a small-plane flight when services run, and ferries are cancelled in heavy weather — build buffer days into any trip. Medical facilities on the island are basic, and there is no organised rescue beyond what the local schools arrange. Confirm the current school and ferry situation before you book; the scene is small enough that one operator closing changes the picture.

Access & parking
Ferry from Iloilo or Puerto Princesa (long crossings, cancelled in heavy weather), or a small-plane flight when services run. Launches from Capusan Beach and the pier sandbar.
Parking: Informal parking near the beach in Cuyo town.
Amenities
- Small local kite schools and rental (confirm current operators before travelling)
- Guesthouses and eateries in Cuyo town
Needs local verification: Compiled in October 2026 from the schools' own pages and independent spot databases (Kite Insider, Kiteguide, Kitesurf The World, KTA event reports). Kite riding in the Philippines is largely unregulated outside Boracay's municipal rules, so exact launch pins, seasonal beach-space changes and resort access all need confirming on site, and the coordinates below are approximate rather than verified launch points. No verified live webcam exists for these spots, so the camera links open Windy's webcam search instead of a confirmed local feed.
Local hazards
- Remote island — basic medical facilities and no organised public rescue
- Ferry cancellations in heavy weather — plan buffer days
- The SW Habagat wind is offshore on the main beaches
- Fishing boats and small ferries work the pier area
