About this spot
Djibouti Dynamik calls the Tortue (Haramous) the must-do urban spot before foils took over: water so shallow you ride a hair above the sandbanks, rideable from late August to late June except in the Khamsin, which blows offshore.
The thermal wind is laminar on/side-shore, building from 10:00 to 14:00 and easing after 15:30 — mostly 8–10 knots, 10–12 about a quarter of the time, over 12 only 10–15 %. Big kites (14–16 m²) and large boards are the norm.
The guide rates it ideal for learning, but there is no certified school to learn with — the only obstacles are poles fishermen leave to tie their nets.

Needs local verification: Compiled in October 2026 from Djibouti Dynamik (a resident rider's detailed spot and wind guide), the MS/Y Elegante kite-safari itinerary, Unplug and Let's Kite spot cards. Djibouti has no certified kite school on the sand — the resident guide offers only a land-based introduction and says he is not licensed to teach — so no spot carries a beginner label. Ghoubbet spots are reached by boat or 4x4; pins are approximate. Water temperature is a seasonal Gulf of Aden estimate.
Local hazards
- Fishermen's net poles in the water
- Khamsin wind is offshore — do not ride
- No school or rescue
