About this spot

Kite Beach is the stretch of Table View beach between Jerry's burger bar and Pakalolo, a few kilometres south of Big Bay. On windy summer days kites line the coast as far as you can see. SA Kitesurf runs most of its lessons from the car park in front of Pakalolo, starting on land and moving to body-dragging in the water.

The working directions are SE, S and SW, and the summer south-easter is the main wind. Schools describe the style as freeride, waves and big air, with a wind range of about 10–40 kn, and water of about 13 °C in winter and 20 °C in summer. Nearby Dolphin Beach, just south, is where the pros go on big-wind days; Sunset Beach further south can be gusty and cross-offshore.

Beginners learn here only with a school. On your own, the strong wind, shorebreak and cold water make it a spot for confident riders.

Access & parking

On Marine Drive / Beach Boulevard in Table View, about 20 km north of Cape Town city centre.

Parking: Numerous parking spots along the seafront road, including in front of Pakalolo beach bar.

Amenities

  • SA Kitesurf and other schools run lessons from here (meeting point in front of Pakalolo).
  • Beach bars and restaurants along the beachfront.

Needs local verification: Compiled in October 2026 from the schools' and club's own pages (SA Kitesurf teaching spots, Cape Town Kite Club spot guide, Good Vibes Kite School, Open Ocean Africa, Visit Witsand). Exact launch pins, swim-zone boundaries, municipal or SANParks rules (Langebaan lagoon sits partly inside West Coast National Park zoning), parking fees, rescue cover and the current shark-spotter status all still need confirming on site — coordinates are beach or bay centres, not verified launch points.

Local hazards

  • Strong, sometimes gusty south-easter — up to around 40 kn in peak summer.
  • Shorebreak and Atlantic swell; cold Benguela water needs a full wetsuit.
  • Semi-submerged rocks just north of Doodles, on the way towards Big Bay.
  • Very busy on summer afternoons — keep a safe distance from other kites and from swimmers.
  • Easterly and north-easterly winds are offshore — do not ride in them.
