About this spot

Samudra Kiteboarding is based on this lagoon and uses it as its teaching water. Its own course page states that in flat water like Laguna José Ignacio you progress faster than on beaches with waves such as Playa Malvín, and an independent spot guide describes the lagoon as ideal for beginners thanks to its safe conditions.

The wind is a thermal one, not a trade: the same guide says south and south-easterly winds blow regularly in the afternoon during the October-to-March season, and its two-year modelled series puts most rideable hours in the 7–12 knot band (about 55%) with a further 41% at 13–20 knots. Mornings are often flat, so plan the session for the afternoon and check the forecast on the day.

The school's contact page gives its address as Ruta 10 km 179.800 in José Ignacio, so the map pin marks the lagoon area rather than a surveyed launch and rigging point. Confirm the current teaching area, depth over the bottom, parking and any fee with the school before you rig.

Needs local verification: Sources: https://www.kitesurfuruguay.com/curso-basico-de-kitesurf/ (the school's own wording that flat water at Laguna José Ignacio lets you progress faster than wave beaches such as Playa Malvín), https://www.kitesurfuruguay.com/contacto/ (Ruta 10 km 179.800 address), https://lets-kite.com/en/spots/16862/kitesurf/samudra-kiteboarding-spot (beginner-suitability wording, S/SE afternoon thermals, Oct–Mar season, 7–12 kt in ~55% and 13–20 kt in ~41% of rideable hours). Coordinates approximate the lagoon, not a verified launch. Water-temperature fallback values are Punta del Este sea averages used as a regional estimate — the lagoon's own water is not measured here. Confirm teaching area, permissions, fees and rescue cover locally. Windy links are searches/maps, not verified local webcams.
