About this spot

Les Tipaniers on Moorea's north-west coast is a main gateway to the lagoon and the Taota pass; the beach itself is narrow and regulated.

The local school Lakana Fly teaches complete beginners from boats on safe shallow sandbars, away from the technical shore launch.

Kiting is restricted at public swimming areas nearby, and many Moorea riders launch from boats rather than the obstacle-filled beaches.

North-easterly to easterly winds are the safe side-on sector; the Mara'amu season runs May to October.
