About this spot
The Lista peninsula is Norway's southernmost tip and one of its windiest areas — the cape sticks out into the Skagerrak/North Sea and catches wind from most westerly and southerly directions. Haviksanden, on the south-west side of Lista, is a long white sandy beach facing the open sea, known for clean, steady wind and good waves when swell wraps around the cape.
SW, W and S winds are the classic directions — side-onshore and clean. NW works; N and E are offshore over the peninsula and dangerous. Hazards include strong rip currents in swell, quickly changing weather (the cape is exposed to fronts), cold water all year and few other people around. Lista is also a major bird migration area with protected zones — respect any signage, especially in spring and autumn.
Farsund is the nearest town with shops and food; there is parking near the beach. Best for intermediate and expert riders who are comfortable in open-sea conditions. A 5/4 mm suit is the minimum most of the year.
