About this spot

RAK — Revista Argentina de Kitesurf describes Necochea as an easterly thermal wind with a season from October to March and kite sizes of 9–12 m. Kite Insider adds that the easterly is most reliable in November, December and January, that south-easterly and south-westerly can also work, and that a thermal afternoon near 16 knots is the one number anyone has put on it — its own wind-day statistics are modelled from forecast archives rather than read from a ground station.

There is instruction on this stretch: the Necotxea watersports club runs kite and wingfoil lessons, and its customer reviews describe people starting the sport there. But the same guide cautions that schools teach beginners while a beginner on their own needs a sheltered day and the right launch, and most of that 64 km is neither — so arrange the school or check with local riders before rigging, rather than assuming any section of beach works.

The hazards are the coastal ones. Kite Insider warns to give the breakwaters and the Quequén port mouth a wide berth. The water is cold: the guide reports about 19.3 °C in summer and 11.4 °C in winter with early-August readings near 10 °C, and the nearest measured official series (CEADO at Mar del Plata) bottoms out at 9.3 °C in July.

Needs local verification: Sources: https://rakkitesurf.com/necochea/ (RAK: easterly thermal wind, October–March season, 9–12 m kites), https://kiteinsider.com/spots/necochea-argentina (easterly most reliable Nov–Jan, SE/SW usable, ~16 kt thermal afternoon from modelled data, 19.3 °C summer / 11.4 °C winter, 64 km of open coast, keep clear of the escolleras and port mouth), https://www.hidro.gov.ar/ceado/EF/EF.asp?op=3&v=8 (CEADO Mar del Plata series used as the nearest measured reference). A school operates and teaches on this stretch, but the guide explicitly says a beginner alone needs the sheltered day and the right launch, so beginner-friendly is withheld until a school names a teaching section. Coordinates come from a places database for the club area, not a surveyed launch. Windy links are searches/maps, not verified local webcams.
