About this spot
Sa'anapu sits on Upolu's south coast alongside the Sataoa lagoon system, sharing its shallow warm water and its exposure to the dry-season trade winds.
The guide that surveyed Samoa's kite beaches asked local instructors about it: launching here is slightly more technical than at wider Sataoa, which makes it better suited to riders who are already comfortable launching and handling their equipment than to complete beginners — so this page does not carry a beginner label.
For confident riders it offers an open lagoon, uncrowded water, the same south-coast scenery of reef lagoons and volcanic coastline, and the marine life that comes with it — turtles and other creatures are regularly under the board.
The same May-to-October trade season applies, and the November-to-April wet season is cyclone territory rather than a kite window.

Needs local verification: Sources: https://samoapocketguide.com/kitesurfing-in-samoa-the-top-places-to-kitesurf (Sa'anapu section: same lagoon system as Sataoa, shallow warm waters and trade-wind exposure in the dry season, and local instructors' view that launching is slightly more technical here, making it better suited to experienced riders than complete beginners), https://www.samoatourism.org/articles/605/kitesurfing-new-way-to-experience-samoas-waters (official tourism: consistent south-east trades May–October, lessons held at Sataoa — not here), OpenStreetMap 'Saanapu Mangrove Conservation Area' and 'Sa'anapu Tai Mangrove' for the location. Coordinates are approximate — confirm the launch with the school at Sataoa before driving down. Wind strength in knots and the sector split are my own estimates.
