About this spot

Upwind Kitesurf School calls Silver Rock the main beach for kitesurfing and kite lessons on Barbados, and Endless Kiteboarding is based right on it. The beach is only about 350 m long and ten minutes from the airport, and it is mostly kiters and windsurfers rather than ordinary beachgoers.

The north-east trades average 15–22 knots per the school and can reach 30; peak season runs December to July, busiest late December to April. The school notes the angle is side-off in the winter months and side-on in summer, so a winter lesson relies on the school's rescue cover.

Between a small shore break and an outer reef about 250 m out is a generally flat area with moderate chop; the reef break carries clean 1–3 m waves for wave riders. Tide range is about 50 cm and the school says there is roughly 1.5 m of water over the reef. Watch the rocks at the downwind end towards Silver Sands and the downwind current.
