About this spot
Somone is a small town built around a protected lagoon and mangrove reserve rather than a resort strip, and Kite Insider describes it as Saly's quieter neighbour — riders come here for nature and a slower pace after a session, and use Saly nearby for anything livelier. The lagoon itself is the reason to come: Kite Insider's Senegal overview singles out Somone's protected mangrove lagoon as the exception to the country's otherwise mixed chop-and-wave coast.
Teaching is local and school-run. Booba Kitesurf School publishes its base on the lagoon edge at Ndangane (Lagune de Somone), and its reviews describe the spot as ideal for beginners with an instructor who explains clearly and builds confidence; a separate IKO-certified instructor based in Somone lists private and group lessons from complete beginner to advanced, equipment rental, and downwind excursions to quieter water. Both say lessons are adapted to the day's wind, so the launch is chosen with an instructor rather than picked from a map.
Plan around the trade-wind window. Kite Insider puts Somone's spots in season November to May, and a Senegal kite guide gives the lagoon wind as 15–30 knots across those months; June to October is described as off-season, so a trip outside the window can mean light or no usable wind. The lagoon sits inside a mangrove reserve and bird sanctuary and is shared with pirogues and swimmers, so ask the school which section is open for lessons and how far the tide lets you wade that day.

The 15–30 kt figure comes from https://senekeur.sn/kitesurf/, a French-language guide, not a station record. The pin is the school's published lagoon-edge position, not a verified launch: confirm the reserve rules, the lesson section, tide limits and any permit before rigging. Water-temperature fallback values are estimates. No verified local live webcam was found; Windy links are searches/maps.
Local hazards
- Tide-dependent depth and exposed sandbanks
