About this spot
Batroun is the north-coast town where kitesurfing has been taught for years: Batroun Water Sports has run water-sports courses here since 2007 and says its kitesurfing courses cover all levels, and the island-wide school community has been teaching on this bay in recent seasons, with riders learning to ride independently from its beaches.
The bay works on a southerly-to-westerly wind — the spot guide's best directions are S, SSW and SW, with SW to W the prevailing ones — from March to September, and it does not depend on the tide. Wind and water are honest: the guide rates the water intermediate to expert, with chop and small-to-medium waves on the open days.
Rocks are the reason for that rating. The guide lists rocks as the hazard and the beach as sand and rock, so the friendly water for a first lesson is the section the schools use, not any stretch of shoreline you fancy. Set up where they do.
