About this spot
Jiyeh sits on the coast road south of Beirut and is the spot riders come to when they want waves rather than a flat bay. The spot guide describes good waves up to two metres here, and says that on a W to SW day the water goes flat behind a wave breaker — a rare combination in Lebanon, where most beaches offer one or the other.
The guide's best wind window is N, NW and NNW, with SW to W as the prevailing direction, and the spot works from March to September regardless of the tide. That northerly window is what sets this beach apart from the SSW-oriented schools' beaches further north.
It is not a place to learn. The guide lists reefs and the wave breaker as hazards, and no school confirms beginner lessons here, so come able to self-rescue, keep clear of the breaker until you have read it, and check the reef line at low sun before you launch.
