About this spot
The Suuslodge / Fly.kg operator describes the South Lagoon near Ottuk, about 12–18 km from Balykchy, as a large shallow bay with flat water and a sandy bottom, safe for beginners because of the shoal and the enclosed bay.
Two local winds rule the season: the Santash, an easterly thermal that blows very evenly at 12–15 knots four to five days a week, and the Ulan, a gusty westerly storm wind of 25–35 knots that arrives a couple of times a week and raises chop. Kite sizes 9–18 m² cover the range; the season runs from about March to November, with May–October the core months.
Fly.kg teaches from zero on the south shore with instructors it states hold IKO certificates; a basic course is quoted at about $400 for 8 hours over four days, with a free 30-minute trial lesson and all equipment provided.
