About this spot
Holbox is a small car-free island off the northern tip of the Yucatán peninsula. Its north-facing beach and the very shallow sandbanks around it give warm, flat-to-lightly-choppy water, and from about November to April the easterly to north-easterly trade winds blow side-onshore along the beach. Several small kite schools work on the island.
The island lies within the Yum Balam protected area: flamingos and other birds use the lagoon side, and whale sharks visit offshore in summer. Respect any zones the reserve or local schools close to kites, keep clear of the swimming beach in front of the village, and expect thinner wind in the summer months.

Needs local verification: Compiled in October 2026 from independent spot guides and the general descriptions of the La Ventana and Holbox schools. Launch pins, which school operates where, beach and reserve rules and fees change from season to season, so everything here needs confirming on site and the coordinates are approximate, not verified launch points. The beginner label for El Sargento and the Holbox launch rules were not confirmed from a primary source. No verified live webcam was found, so the camera links open Windy's webcam search instead of a local feed.
