About this spot

Jericoacoara — Jeri — is a sand-street village surrounded by dunes inside Jericoacoara National Park. The beach in front of town is a wave and freeride spot: the trade wind arrives side-shore from the east, and the swell wraps around the point at Pedra Furada and the western headland, which makes it a goal for wave riders and the finish line of downwinders from Preá.

The season runs roughly July to January. Close to the village the wind can be gustier where it comes over the dune and town, and the point break and rocks around the headland are for confident riders only. For flat water, riders head inland to Lagoa do Paraíso and Lagoa Azul, freshwater lagoons about 20–30 minutes away by buggy.

The Brazilian Kitesurf Association lists accredited schools in Jericoacoara, including Kiteschool Jericoacoara, Kite Aventura and Kite is Cool, so lessons are available — typically on the lagoons or the quieter beach sections rather than the wave zone. The national park has its own access rules and an environmental fee; check them before you arrive.

Amenities

  • Schools listed by the Brazilian Kitesurf Association in Jericoacoara: Kiteschool Jericoacoara, Kite Aventura and Kite is Cool.
  • Full village services — pousadas, rental, restaurants, pharmacy — within walking distance of the beach.

Needs local verification: Compiled in October 2026 from the schools' own pages (Associação Brasileira de Kitesurf school list, Kitesurf Escola Paraíso, BGKite School, Barra Grande Beach Club, InfoCumbuco, KiteFeliz) and general north-east Brazil trade-wind climatology. Exact launch pins, beach-access rules, buggy and vehicle restrictions on the sand, the Jericoacoara National Park entry rules and fees, rescue cover and the tide state that suits each launch all still need confirming on site — coordinates are town or beach centres, not verified launch points.

Local hazards

  • Rocks around the western headland and Pedra Furada — the point break is for confident wave riders only.
  • Gusty wind close to town where it crosses the dunes and buildings — launch upwind of the village.
  • A southerly or south-westerly wind is offshore — do not ride in it.
  • Inside a national park: access rules and an environmental fee apply, and vehicle traffic is restricted — check before arriving.
  • Busy beach with swimmers and the sunset crowd on the dune — keep the launch clear.
