About this spot
Preá is a small village on the Ceará coast just east of Jericoacoara, and for many riders it is the more practical base: the beach is long and open, the launch is free of the national-park rules that apply in Jeri, and the trade wind comes in clean and steady across a sandy shore.
The wind blows from the east and east-south-east, side-shore along the beach, and the season runs roughly July to January. Out at sea the water is choppy with small waves, especially at high tide; at low tide the sandbanks and pools give flatter patches close to shore. Downwinders west to Jericoacoara are a classic trip, organised by the schools with a car pick-up at the end.
The Brazilian Kitesurf Association lists accredited schools in Preá — including Curral Kite Center, Play Kiteschool and Kite Preá School — so beginners can learn here with an instructor. Without a school, the open sea and side-shore drift make it a place for riders who can already stay upwind.

Amenities
- Schools listed by the Brazilian Kitesurf Association in Preá: Curral Kite Center, Play Kiteschool and Kite Preá School.
- Kite pousadas, rental and beach bars along the front.
Needs local verification: Compiled in October 2026 from the schools' own pages (Associação Brasileira de Kitesurf school list, Kitesurf Escola Paraíso, BGKite School, Barra Grande Beach Club, InfoCumbuco, KiteFeliz) and general north-east Brazil trade-wind climatology. Exact launch pins, beach-access rules, buggy and vehicle restrictions on the sand, the Jericoacoara National Park entry rules and fees, rescue cover and the tide state that suits each launch all still need confirming on site — coordinates are town or beach centres, not verified launch points.
Local hazards
- Side-shore drift carries you west along the coast — self-rescue is a long walk back up the beach.
- A southerly or south-westerly wind is offshore on this coast — do not launch in it.
- Downwinders to Jericoacoara cross into the national park; arrange them with a school and a car pick-up.
- Buggies and 4x4 traffic on the sand between Preá and Jeri — watch your lines.
- Learning is with a school only; arriving alone as a beginner means open sea with no rescue.
