About this spot
Agios Ioannis and Milos beach, on the north-west coast of Lefkada near the town, are among the most scenic kite spots in Greece: a long pebble-and-sand beach with impossibly turquoise water and a very reliable afternoon thermal wind. On sunny summer days the breeze builds from late morning and typically reaches 15–22 knots from the west to north-west in the afternoon — freeride and foil paradise.
The beach faces roughly west: the thermal blows side-onshore from the W/NW, which is the safe working direction. Easterly winds come over the mountains and are gusty and offshore — do not ride. The water deepens relatively quickly off the pebble beach, and there can be a shore break when swell runs. The wind is gusty close to the windmills and the cape at the northern end; the southern part of the beach is cleaner.
Kite schools operate on the beach in season; parking along the beach road; Lefkada town is a few minutes away with full services. Warm water from June to October. Suited to intermediate riders and up because of the quickly deepening water; beginners should go with a school.
