About this spot
Open Eye Creek is filed as a lagoon rather than an open beach: a very shallow stretch of flat, clean water with a sandy shore that turns to hard, muddy ground in places. The spot record is unusually direct about who it suits — lots of space, very safe for beginners — and rates the water clean.
The wind here is the gentle kind. The record says conditions are generally lighter than on the open coast and that any direction will work, which is what a sheltered lagoon does; the forecast atlas puts the usable range at 12 to 35 knots with gusts to 45. Bring a bigger kite than you would for the beach, and before you rig, walk the shore and work out which end of the lagoon the wind is pushing you toward.
This is also the practical address for learning in Kuwait. The two schools that run in the country — Salty Sports, an IKO-certified centre and Duotone/ION/Fanatic dealer, and Q8 Kiteboarding, teaching since 2013 on an IKO-style syllabus — are both based in the Al Khiran area a few kilometres away, and Q8 names Al Khiran as the best kiteboarding spot in Kuwait for beginners: steady 15 to 25 knots, shallow sandy water. Neither school publishes this creek as its teaching beach, so book the lesson and ask where you will actually be put on the water.

Needs local verification: Sources: the Kiteforum record for Open Eye Creek (lagoon, very shallow flat clean water, muddy bottom, sandy area with hard/muddy ground, lots of space, very safe for beginners, generally lighter winds, any wind direction works, about 100 km south of Kuwait City, no specific rules beyond country law), the Spots Guru atlas page for the same spot (12–35 kt, gusts to 45 kt, level beginner/intermediate/expert) and the two Kuwait schools' own sites — Salty Sports (IKO-certified centre, Al-Khiran area) and Q8 Kiteboarding (courses since 2013 on an IKO syllabus, naming Al Khiran as the best beginner spot in Kuwait at 15–25 kt). No station sits on this lagoon: every wind figure is an atlas or model number, not a reading. The pin is approximate — the record describes the drive and says the lagoon is visible from the road, it does not publish a coordinate. Needs local verification.
Local hazards
- Muddy bottom and hard ground under the sand — falls land on something solid
- Very shallow water: no depth to fall into, and boards and fins hit the bottom
- Lighter wind than the open coast — a big kite is often the difference between riding and wading
- The lagoon's axis is not published, so confirm on site which end an offshore wind pushes you to
- Summer air reaches 50 °C; June to September only makes sense at dawn
