About this spot

Pelzerhaken sits on the Neustadt peninsula in Lübeck Bay (Lübecker Bucht). The bay is sheltered from the open Baltic, and the sandy shallows off the beach give flat to lightly choppy water — a favourite for learners and freestyle riders from Hamburg and Lübeck.

The beach faces east to south-east across the bay, so easterly, south-easterly and southerly winds are onshore to side-onshore and the best directions. North-east works too, with a little more chop. Westerly winds blow from the land and are offshore — do not ride. Watch for the Neustadt harbour entrance and sailing traffic to the north.

There is a dedicated kite area with schools in season, parking near the beach and holiday facilities in Pelzerhaken and Neustadt. Kite zones and seasonal swimming-area restrictions should be checked locally.
