About this spot
Pomorie sits on a narrow peninsula enclosing Pomorie Bay, and the shallow, sandy bay just north of the old town is the best flat-water spot on Bulgaria's southern coast. The entry is gentle and waist-deep for a good stretch, the bottom is clean sand and, in the bay's shadow, the water stays remarkably flat even when the open sea outside is choppy — a great match for beginners, returners and freestyle practice.
The bay faces east, so N, NNE and NE winds arrive side-onshore and E is comfortably onshore — the prevailing summer directions along this coast. Southerly directions blow straight over the peninsula and are offshore — avoid them entirely. Watch for moored boats and swimmers closer to town, and give the harbour breakwater a wide berth. In July–August the beaches are busy: launch from the quieter northern end and keep your kite high near bathers.
The town is a pleasant, working town famous for its salt pans and mud treatment, with cafés, accommodation, a long seafront promenade and parking near the beach. Burgas airport is about 15 minutes away, making Pomorie an easy add-on to a southern-coast trip. The water is warm from June to September (23–25 °C); a 3/2 mm or shorty covers the shoulder season.
