About this spot
Punta Trettu, on the south-western tip of Sardinia facing the island of Sant'Antioco, is a shallow bay with perfectly flat water — one of the best learning spots in the Mediterranean. The water is standing depth over a large area, the bottom is sandy with some seagrass, and the bay works with both main winds: the Mistral (NW) blows side-onshore and clean, while the Sirocco (SE) comes in onshore from the channel.
The Mistral (W to NW) and Sirocco (SE) are the working winds; the compass on this card covers both. Northerly and easterly winds are gusty over the land. The bay is tide-independent and the water warms early in the season. Watch for the few deeper channels, moored boats and swimmers near the beach in summer.
Kite schools operate on the spot in season; parking near the beach; the nearest towns are Sant'Antioco and Carbonia. Warm water from May to October. Ideal for beginners and freestyle; the flat water also makes it a favourite for foilers in light wind.
