About this spot
Shoal Bay East is the beach on every Anguilla postcard: a long white-sand strip facing the open Atlantic trades, with a barrier reef offshore that knocks the swell down and leaves flat to lightly choppy water on the inside.
The easterly trade wind blows side-onshore here for most of the year, and the sandy bottom with knee-to-chest depth at low tide makes it the island's most forgiving place to learn. Watch for coral heads in the lagoon and give swimmers and snorkel boats a wide berth in season.
