About this spot
Yyteri, just west of Pori, is Finland's signature beach: six kilometres of white sand backed by some of the largest dune fields in the Nordic countries. For kitesurfers it is the country's most versatile spot — the shore shelves so gently that beginners can stand waist-deep far from the beach, while a couple of hundred metres out the open Bothnian Sea builds proper waves in westerly winds.
W, NW and SW are the classic working directions, blowing onshore to side-onshore; northerlies along the coast can also work. E and SE winds come over the land and are offshore, gusty and dangerous. The bottom is clean sand with almost no obstacles. The water is cold most of the year — the Bothnian coast only really warms up in July and August (around 15–18 °C), so a 4/3 mm or 5/4 mm wetsuit is the norm, and spring and autumn sessions call for boots, gloves and a hood.
Yyteri has full summer infrastructure: parking along the beach road, cafés, a spa hotel, lifeguards in season and a kite school operating from the beach. Launch away from the flagged swimming zones in July. Suitable for all levels — one of the best places in Finland to learn.
