About this spot
Bol, on the south coast of Brač, is home to Zlatni Rat — the Golden Horn — Croatia's most famous beach, a pebble spit that shifts shape with the currents. The channel between Brač and Hvar funnels the wind, and the summer Maestral builds reliably in the afternoon. The water is a brilliant turquoise and the setting, below the Vidova Gora mountain, is spectacular.
The spit faces roughly south to south-west: the Maestral (W to NW) blows side-onshore on the western side of the horn and is the working wind; easterly winds work on the other side but are less reliable. The Bora (NE) is gusty and dangerous. The bottom is pebble, the water deepens quickly off the tip, and there are currents around the horn. In summer the beach is very busy and kite zones are enforced — kite from the designated area.
Kite centres operate at Bol in season; parking in Bol town (paid); the ferry from Split arrives in Supetar, ~35 km away. Warm water in summer. Suited to intermediate riders and up; the zoned area and boat traffic require attention.
