About this spot
Viganj, on the south coast of the Pelješac peninsula, faces the island of Korčula across a narrow channel. The strait funnels the summer Maestral, which builds reliably in the afternoon to 15–25 knots — one of the most wind-reliable spots in Croatia and a long-time favourite of the windsurf and kite scene.
The shore faces roughly south-west into the channel: the Maestral (W to NW) blows side-onshore along the channel and is the working wind. The Bora (NE) is offshore and extremely gusty here — do not ride. The shore is pebble, the water gets deep quickly, and the wind line starts some way off the beach. There is boat traffic in the channel, including the Korčula ferries — keep clear.
Kite and windsurf centres operate in Viganj in season; parking in the village; Orebić and the Korčula ferry are a few minutes away. Warm water in summer. Suited to confident riders who can waterstart and stay upwind; beginners should go with a school.
