About this spot
Habo Ljung, on the coast between Lomma and Barsebäck in Skåne, is southern Sweden's kite capital. A vast shallow area stretches far out into the Øresund — standing depth over firm sand with flat to lightly choppy water. It is the region's classic learning and freestyle spot, a short drive from Malmö and Lund.
The beach faces roughly west into the Øresund: south-west, west and north-west winds blow onshore to side-onshore and are the safe working directions; south and north work as side-shore. Easterly winds blow from the land and are offshore — do not ride. The water is shallow for a long way out, the bottom is sand with some weed patches, and the area can be busy with other kiters on good summer days. The water is cold outside high summer — a wetsuit is needed most of the year.
Kite schools operate here in season; parking near the beach; Malmö is about 20 minutes away. Ideal for beginners and freestyle; check local rules and the marked launch areas.
