About this spot

Torö Stenstrand, at the southern edge of the Stockholm archipelago, is the most famous open-Baltic wave spot near the capital. A pebble-and-rock beach faces the open sea to the south, and when southerly storms push swell into the Baltic, Torö delivers the best waves within reach of Stockholm.

The beach faces roughly south: southerly to south-westerly winds blow onshore and build the waves; south-easterly works as side-onshore. Northerly winds are offshore from the land and not rideable. The bottom is stones and rock slabs — booties are strongly recommended — and the waves can be powerful with a heavy shore break. The water is cold most of the year; even in summer a full wetsuit is standard.

There are no kite centres on the beach — it is a self-sufficient spot; parking near the beach; Nynäshamn is the nearest town, Stockholm about an hour away. For experienced riders only; respect the rocky launch and the locals.
