About this spot
Haga Park, on the west coast of Öland facing the Kalmar Strait, is a legendary Swedish kite destination: a campsite and kite centre right on a shallow, flat-water shore. The water in the strait stays shallow far out, the bottom is sandy with some stones and weed, and the setting — meadows, the campsite and long summer evenings — makes it a favourite of the Scandinavian kite scene.
The shore faces roughly west to south-west across the strait: south-west, west and north-west winds blow onshore to side-onshore and are the working directions; southerly and northerly winds run along the coast and also work. Easterly winds blow from the island and are offshore — do not ride. Summer brings the most reliable wind, often thermally reinforced in the afternoon. The water is cold outside high summer.
The kite centre offers courses, rental and rescue in season; the campsite has cabins and camping; parking on site; Kalmar is across the Öland bridge. Ideal for beginners and relaxed freeride/freestyle.
