About this spot
Kuredu is one of the few Maldivian islands built around kiting rather than merely tolerating it: the resort has a resident, VDWS-certified water-sports centre with lessons, rental and storage, and a sheltered lagoon that stays flat and waist-deep for a long way out. That combination — teaching standard, rescue from the centre's own boats, warm flat water over sand — makes it the most straightforward place in the country to start, and a comfortable one to progress on.
The trade-off is power. The Maldives is not a strong-wind country, and Kuredu is no exception: the school months are January–February and June–September, the wind is usually light by kiteboarding standards, and travel operators tell riders bringing their own gear to pack a big kite. That is exactly why the lagoon reads as safe — you are rarely over-powered, and the water is too shallow and too flat to intimidate anyone who has not yet mastered a waterstart.
Getting here is the real planning step: Kuredu sits in Lhaviyani Atoll, reached by domestic flight or seaplane from Malé, and the atoll has its own domestic airport. Everything else happens inside the resort — the launch, the gear, the instruction and the rescue cover — so the practical question is not where to park but what the centre will agree to do with you, and on which side of the island, for the dates you are there.

Needs local verification: Compiled in October 2026 from resort water-sports pages, school listings and established spot guides (KiteInsider, KiteJungle, Breeza). In the Maldives kiting runs through a resort or a licensed operator rather than a public beach, and on local islands the launch sits inside the island council's designated tourist beach — both can change without notice. Which side of an island a centre uses in each monsoon, the exact launch pin, rescue cover, and any permit or insurance requirement all need confirming on site; coordinates are approximate.
Local hazards
- Light wind is the norm — bring a big kite or a foil if you have your own gear
- Reef and coral along the lagoon edges
- Resort water-sports area: swimmers, boats and other activities share the water
