About this spot
Divjaka, on the central Adriatic coast inside Karavasta — Albania's largest lagoon — has become the country's kitesurfing home base. Behind the long sandy beach the lagoon is enormous, warm and waist-deep for a very long stretch, and the IKO kite school that runs here at Pish Poro uses those flat, shallow waters to teach beginners in conditions far gentler than the open sea.
The afternoon Maestral fills in from the west and north-west, blowing side-shore across the lagoon and beach, and the water stays glass-flat in the lagoon's shadow even when the Adriatic outside is choppy. Easterly and north-easterly directions blow over the land and are offshore, and the winter Bora arriving from the north-east is cold and gusty. The lagoon is a protected wetland where flamingos and pelicans nest, so stay on the marked kite area, keep the noise down and avoid the reed channels, which shift with the water level.
Pish Poro beach has a kite school, rental, showers and a couple of beach bars, while the surrounding national park stays flat, pine-covered and quiet, with no high-rise resort in sight. Tirana and its airport are about an hour and a half away, which makes Divjaka an easy base for a mixed kite-and-city trip. Because the scene is still young, exact launch points, lagoon access and school zones change from season to season and should be confirmed on site.
