About this spot

South of Divjaka the coast straightens into the Bay of Vlorë, and the Vjosë-Nartë area — the river delta, the Nartë lagoon and the Zvërnec peninsula — is one of the windiest stretches of the Albanian coast. Riders come here for space and power: the westerly Maestral funnels into the bay, the afternoon thermal adds to it, and the long, mostly empty shore means you rarely share the water with anyone.

The bay opens to the west and south-west, so westerly and north-westerly winds arrive side-shore or onshore over sand and shell bottom, while a northerly runs down the coast side-shore. Easterly and north-easterly winds are offshore, and the Bora funnelled down from the Ceraunian mountains can be violent — the same wind that has pushed riders kilometres downwind. The Vjosë river mouth and the lagoon channels pull a current in and out, so check the tide before committing to a long downwind run.

Facilities are thin: Nartë and the Zvërnec peninsula have a few restaurants, beaches and guesthouses, and the island's 13th-century monastery is reachable by boat, but there is no kite infrastructure, no rescue and no marked zone. Vlorë and its airport are close by, and the road south to the Ionian Riviera is one of the most scenic drives in the Balkans. Confirm access, parking and any wetland restrictions locally before setting up.
