About this spot
Pissouri Bay is a sheltered crescent between Limassol and Paphos, backed by the village high on the hill. The headlands soften the chop and the bay picks up the summer afternoon thermal well, which makes it the most comfortable all-round spot on the western side of the island — you can kite while the family enjoys the beach.
SW, WSW and S are the working directions; the headlands shelter the bay from the open-sea swell, so the water stays mostly flat with light chop. Northerly winds come over the ridge and are dangerous. The launch is over sand with a few pebble patches, and the water deepens fairly quickly beyond a small shore break. The water is warm (roughly 17–28 °C): boardshorts or a shorty in summer.
The bay has a big car park, hotels, tavernas, sunbed zones and seasonal lifeguards — kite away from the swimming flags. Occasional kite rental and coaching operate from the beach in season. Good for confident beginners upward; in westerly storms the bay still feels the swell, so check conditions before launching.
