About this spot

Windy.app's North Macedonia kite directory ranks Struga City Beach as the country's top kite spot, and the lake's own overview confirms Ohrid is ridden — its wind rose records the south and south-west winds as dominant in spring and summer, exactly the direction that blows up the lake onto this north-shore beach.

The same overview is also the reason to be picky about the season: the most prevalent wind on Ohrid is the north wind, particularly in autumn and winter — and at Struga, right at the Crn Drim outlet, a northerly blows offshore down the lake. Ride here on the spring–summer south-westerly window, not on the autumn north.

The Macedonian kiters themselves rate Ohrid as the least favourable of the lakes they tried ('we even tried Ohrid, but it's most favourable in Prespa'), and no school teaches on its shore — so treat this as a town-convenience spot for confident riders, with the city beach's swimmers to share with.

Needs local verification: Compiled in October 2026 from Kitesports Macedonia (kitesports.mk), Windy.app's North Macedonia kite directory, a Sakam Da Kažam report on the Prespa launches with the Vertigo club, a Slovenian trip report on Slivnica, Windfinder's Star Dojran page and Wikipedia's Dojran lake article. No kite school operates in the country, so no lessons or rental are documented; the water tables are seasonal estimates from the lakes' documented surface ranges. Exact launch points, entry conditions, parking and any protected-area rules need on-site confirmation.

Local hazards

  • The prevailing autumn/winter north wind is offshore at this launch
  • Current at the Crn Drim outlet
